TENSIONS RISE IN KETU SOUTH AS CIVIC GROUP CONDEMNS MP’S COURT ACTION AGAINST YOUTH LEADER

By Hebrews Pouyeli Kumako

A fresh wave of political tension is building in Ketu South following a strong statement by the Resistance Movement for Change (RMC) condemning legal action taken by the area’s Member of Parliament, Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie, against a local youth leader.
At the center of the dispute is Wisdom Agbassah, a youth figure from Lavoekpoe, who is reportedly facing court proceedings over comments made during a radio interview on a community borehole water project linked to the MP.

In a sharply worded release, the RMC described the decision to pursue legal action as “deeply concerning” and unnecessary, arguing that the issue could have been resolved through dialogue rather than litigation.
“This is a matter that could be addressed through public clarification or engagement with community leaders,” the group emphasized, warning that escalating the issue through the courts risks widening divisions within the constituency.
The movement is demanding the immediate withdrawal of the case, urging the MP to de-escalate tensions and instead initiate open engagement with chiefs and youth in Lavoekpoe regarding the project and its funding sources.

OFFICIAL STATEMENT FROM THE RESISTANCE MOVEMENT FOR CHANGE:

The Resistance Movement for Change (RMC) is gravely concerned by the decision of the Member of Parliament for Ketu South, Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie, to take Wisdom Agbassah, a constituent from Lavoekpoe and one of the area’s youth leaders, to court over alleged misrepresentation of facts in an interview with Holy 98.5 FM regarding a borehole water project being undertaken by the MP.

For the avoidance of doubt, the RMC unreservedly condemns the action of the Member of Parliament. This is a matter that could be addressed through a public statement clarifying the facts or by engaging community leadership to resolve the issue amicably.

The RMC, by this official release, demands the following from the Member of Parliament:

  • The immediate withdrawal of the case from court and de-escalation of the matter.
  • Initiation of community engagement with the chiefs and youth of Lavoekpoe on the borehole water project and its source of funding.
  • A commitment to desist from taking any constituent to court over matters concerning development and public funds, and to prioritize diplomacy.

The RMC believes that the disagreement between the MP and the youth of the community where the project is being undertaken is evidence of inadequate community engagement we have long been accusing the MP of not prioritizing. She must implement measures to ensure that details of projects in any community are clearly communicated to residents to prevent such disputes in the future.

It is our view that there are missing details regarding the project’s origin per our engagement with some youth of the area that have not been disclosed. Since the matter is before the court, those facts will be made known during proceedings should she choose to continue with the action.

The RMC considers development advocates in the constituency as de facto members and will not abandon them in difficult times. We shall not create room for intimidation and stand ready to offer assistance to our brothers in Lavoekpoe should the situation escalate.

RMC – Touch One, Touch All.
