The Volta/Oti Regional Office of the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has concluded a week-long community monitoring and public education exercise aimed at assessing utility service delivery and deepening consumer awareness.
Conducted between April 13 and 17, 2026, the initiative spanned four operational districts—Dambai, Jasikan, Hohoe, and Kpando—forming part of the Commission’s ongoing mandate to ensure efficient and reliable electricity and water services.
The exercise reached approximately 330 consumers across 31 communities, providing a platform for direct interaction between regulators and utility users.

In the Dambai District, the team visited communities such as Dambai, Katanga, Asukawkaw, Kparekpare, and Tokurano. Engagements in the Jasikan District covered Jasikan, Worawora, Kadjebi, Okadjakrom, Poase Cement, Dzindziso, and Guaman.
Further outreach in the Hohoe District included Akpafu Odomi, Mempeasem, Santrokofi Benua, Gbodome, Likpe Nkwanta, Bakua, Gbi Atabu, Kledzo, and Fodome Amele, while in the Kpando District, activities were held in Kpando Gabi, Torkor, Fesi, Agbenoxoe, Anfoega, and Vakpo.
Findings from the field exercise revealed a blend of progress and persistent challenges in service delivery.
Some consumers reported improvements in meter reading accuracy, timely distribution of bills, and better customer relations. However, concerns remain widespread over the quality and reliability of electricity supply.
Frequent voltage fluctuations, recurring phase-offs, and unplanned outages—especially during peak hours—were cited as major disruptions affecting households and businesses alike.
The impact of inconsistent electricity supply appears particularly severe on small and medium-scale enterprises, many of which rely heavily on stable power for operations.
Several business owners indicated that erratic power supply continues to undermine productivity, increase operational costs, and threaten business sustainability.
Commission has assured that all concerns gathered during the exercise will be formally communicated to the relevant utility providers for immediate attention.

The Commission reiterated its commitment to continuous monitoring and collaboration with stakeholders to improve service delivery standards.
PURC emphasized its dedication to safeguarding the interests of both consumers and service providers, while promoting transparency, accountability, and active public engagement within the utility sector.
The exercise forms part of broader regulatory efforts to strengthen oversight and ensure equitable access to quality electricity and water services across the Volta and Oti Regions.
