The Ketu South Municipal Health Directorate of Ghana Health Service will conduct a national Measles Rubella vaccination and vitamin A supplement for children aged 9 months to 59 months across the Municipality from 2nd to 6th of October 2024.
Mr David Agbokpe the Ketu South Municipal Health Director in his statement at stakeholders meeting held on Thursday 26th September 2024, explained the needs for parents to allowed their children to be vaccinated, despite the fact that vaccination is one of the world’s most effective ways to save and protect lives, significant hurdles remain. In particular, measles is among the leading causes of vaccine-preventable death among children worldwide, and congenital rubella syndrome is a major cause of birth defects
According to Mr Agbokpe the MMR Vaccine is commended because MMR vaccine is very effective at protecting people against measles, mumps, and rubella, and preventing the complications caused by these diseases.
” Masles and rubella are infections that can lead to serious illness and most children who get the MMR vaccine will be protected from the three diseases throughout their lives.
Measles is one of the most dangerous and contagious diseases. If you are not vaccinated and come into contact with someone who has it, you are very likely to catch it and pass it on to others.
Measles can cause a rash, flu-like symptoms, or more serious problems like brain swelling, chest infections, or death and the only way to crue and prevent it, is to get your child vaccinated” Agbokpe said
