Community leaders, youth, elders, opinion leaders, and key stakeholders of Avoeme in Aflao have welcomed the announcement of the commencement of rehabilitation works on the Avoeme Park, a major community development project being financed by the Felix Akonta Akakpo Foundation.

The engagement, led by Torgbui Tenuvi II, Mr. Felix Akonta Akakpo, brought together the Chief of Avoeme, elders, youth groups, and residents to deliberate on the scope, benefits, and implementation strategy of the project, which officially begins on Wednesday, February 18, 2026.

Addressing the gathering, Torgbui Tenuvi II disclosed that the first phase of the project will focus on land reclamation to prevent perennial flooding, with a minimum of 800 trips of sand required to raise the project site to the level of the main Aflao–Accra highway.

He outlined the comprehensive nature of the development, which includes the construction of:

  • A standard football park
  • Standard volleyball, basketball, and handball courts
  • Toilet facilities and dressing rooms
  • A borehole water system

Additional components of the project include fencing of the entire site, construction of an access road to communities across the lagoon, and a new school to complement the existing Avoeme Basic School.

Torgbui Tenuvi II emphasized that the initiative forms part of his broader commitment to grassroots development, youth empowerment, and community welfare, noting that the project is expected to be completed within six months.

“I am working closely with the chiefs, visionary youth, opinion leaders, and all stakeholders to ensure collective ownership and smooth execution of this all-important project. My loyalty is to the people of Ketu South, both present and future generations. Development must not wait,” he stated.

The Chief of Avoeme, supported by elders and community leaders, expressed profound gratitude to Torgbui Tenuvi II and the Felix Akonta Akakpo Foundation for the timely intervention, describing the project as transformational for sports development, education, sanitation, and youth engagement in the area.

Residents and youth groups also pledged their full cooperation to ensure the project’s success, noting that the park’s redevelopment would help curb social vices, promote healthy lifestyles, and create new opportunities for young people.

The community engagement concluded with a collective call for unity, cooperation, and shared responsibility to deliver what many described as a long-awaited and much-needed development project for Avoeme and its surrounding communities.
