Surrounding the delayed Avoeme AstroTurf Stadium Project in Aflao, as some residents and constituents are accusing the Ketu South Municipal Assembly and the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Nicholas Worclachie, of frustrating progress on the project by allegedly placing personal and political interests above the development needs of the municipality.

According to information gathered in interviews by News Volta, the latest dispute centers on the Assembly’s refusal to allow Togbui Tenuvi II, the Development Chief of the Aflao Traditional Council, to use an available Assembly tipper truck he had reportedly hired to support the project.

Sources say the truck was intended to transport and load soil and sand needed to fill the waterlogged portions of the project site, a critical step required before construction could proceed smoothly.

However, the alleged refusal by the Municipal Assembly to release the truck for the work has reportedly caused further delays, leaving the much-anticipated sports project stalled and sparking public frustration.

Residents say the waterlogged condition of the Avoeme AstroTurf site requires urgent filling and leveling before contractors can continue with full-scale construction. According to community members, Togbui Tenuvi II had taken the initiative to secure resources to help move the process forward, but the Assembly’s refusal to cooperate has contributed to the project’s prolonged delay. What many had hoped would be a major youth development project is now becoming the center of political and administrative controversy.

In interviews with News Volta, some residents openly accused the MCE and Assembly officials of allowing politics and personal ambition to interfere with constituency development.

“We believe some leaders are putting their personal and political interests above the development of Ketu South. This AstroTurf is for the youth and for the community—not for political games,” one concerned resident said.

Others expressed disappointment that a project with such potential to empower young people and promote sports is being slowed by what they described as avoidable bureaucratic and political obstacles.

“This is not about one person or one chief. It is about development. If someone is willing to support the project, why block it?” another resident questioned.

The controversy has intensified calls for the Ketu South Municipal Assembly and the MCE to urgently resolve all disagreements and prioritize the completion of the AstroTurf project.

Residents are demanding transparency over the reasons behind the Assembly’s decision and urging all stakeholders to put aside differences for the benefit of the constituency. Many say the Avoeme AstroTurf is more than just a sports facility—it represents hope, opportunity, and investment in the future of Ketu South’s youth.
