Is Ketu South Ready for Development or Primitive Politics? Philanthropist Faces Political Pressure Amid Growing Community Projects

By Hebrews Pouyeli Kumako

Political tension is gradually rising within the Ketu South Municipality as concerns emerge over what some residents describe as attempts to frustrate the growing developmental and philanthropic activities of Torgbui Tenuvi II Felix Akonta Akakpo.

The philanthropist and community development advocate, who has gained increasing public attention for supporting educational, youth, and social intervention projects across the municipality, is reportedly facing political pressure from sections of the National Democratic Congress ahead of anticipated constituency political activities and future primary elections.

According to interactions conducted by News Volta with some constituents, many residents believe the growing influence and popularity of Torgbui Tenuvi II through community-centered projects have created discomfort among certain political figures within the constituency.

Residents argue that instead of encouraging development and philanthropy, unnecessary political tension is being introduced into activities aimed at improving lives.

Over the past few years and into 2026, Torgbui Tenuvi II has reportedly supported several community-focused initiatives across Ketu South, including:

  • Educational assistance for students and schools
  • Municipal Health Office Complex
  • Avoeme Mini Sport Staduim
  • Youth empowerment and mentorship activities
  • Community donations and welfare support
  • Support for vulnerable families and individuals
  • Social intervention programs targeting local development

Sources within the municipality say his activities have continued to attract attention from the youth and grassroots communities, with many describing him as a “development-oriented philanthropist.”

Fear Over Political Ambition

Some residents claim growing speculation about a possible future parliamentary ambition or participation in constituency primaries may be contributing to the tension surrounding his activities.

According to some constituents who spoke to News Volta, there are fears within sections of the party that his increasing popularity and grassroots acceptance could reshape the local political landscape.

A resident during an interaction with News Volta stated:

“Development should not become a threat. If somebody is helping communities and supporting people, that should be encouraged, not politicized.”

Another youth supporter added:

“Ketu South needs development and opportunities for young people. Politics should not stop individuals who want to contribute positively.”

Community members further expressed concern that the political atmosphere could negatively affect ongoing and future projects associated with Torgbui Tenuvi II. Some fear that tensions and resistance from political actors may discourage private individuals and philanthropists from investing in local development initiatives.

Others are therefore calling for peace, unity, and tolerance within the municipality, emphasizing that development efforts should rise above partisan divisions.

Residents who engaged News Volta urged political leaders and party supporters to focus on the broader needs of Ketu South, including youth unemployment, infrastructure, education, and economic growth, rather than engaging in what they described as “political suppression of development.”

They insist that the municipality can only progress when individuals willing to support communities are allowed to operate without intimidation or unnecessary political hostility.
