Dzifa Gomashie Leads Charge to Resolve ECG Billing Agitation in Ketu South

The Member of Parliament for Ketu South and Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie, has taken a firm stand to address growing public outrage over alleged overbilling, unauthorized meter installations, and unfair disconnections by the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) in her constituency.

Over the past weeks, residents across Ketu South have voiced deep frustration over what they describe as “unbearable and inconsistent power bills”, claiming that the charges do not reflect their actual electricity consumption. Some have accused certain ECG officials of installing unauthorized meters and issuing inflated bills, a situation that has left many households and businesses struggling to cope.

In response to the agitation, Hon. Dzifa Gomashie took a proactive step by meeting with the Minister of Energy, Hon. John Abdulai Jinapor, to convey the concerns of her constituents and seek urgent redress.

Speaking to News Volta, the MP explained that her primary goal is to ensure fairness, accountability, and transparency in ECG’s operations within the Ketu South Municipality.

“I took it upon myself to meet the Minister for Energy, Hon. John Abdulai Jinapor, to lay before him the genuine concerns of our people. We cannot have citizens paying for power they never used. The system must work for everyone,” she stated.

The Energy Minister, in response, pledged to address the issues raised and directed the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC), the Energy Commission, and ECG management to investigate the allegations and submit a comprehensive report.

Hon. Gomashie expressed optimism that the Ministry’s swift response would help uncover the truth behind the billing irregularities and restore public confidence in Ghana’s power distribution system.

“The people of Ketu South deserve justice and transparency. My determination is to see this issue resolved completely so that no consumer feels cheated or neglected,” she emphasized.

She further noted that her office will continue to monitor the situation and collaborate with relevant agencies to ensure residents receive fair treatment.

Meanwhile, the Energy Commission has reminded consumers to pay attention to proper wiring systems and avoid inferior materials, which can increase energy usage and pose safety risks. Officials also advised households to ensure their meters are correctly installed and properly grounded.

Many residents have since commended Hon. Dzifa Gomashie for her courage and compassion in addressing their concerns, describing her actions as a reflection of true servant leadership.

As investigations continue, the people of Ketu South remain hopeful that this intervention led by their MP and supported by the Energy Ministry will bring lasting solutions to the billing crisis in Ketu South and strengthen public trust in Ghana’s energy sector.
