Yorùbá Chief Imam Abdul Lateef Urges Muslims to Remain Faithful and Righteous After Ramadan, During Eid in Aflao

By Hebrews Pouyeli Kumako

The Yorùbá Chief Imam, Abdul Lateef Abdul-Salam, has delivered a powerful message urging Muslims to uphold faith, righteousness, and unity as they marked Eid al-Fitr in Aflao.

The sermon was delivered during a well-attended Eid prayer gathering held at Aflao Victory Park and St. Peter and Paul’s Junior High School, where hundreds of worshippers came together to celebrate the end of Ramadan.

At the heart of his message, the Yorùbá Chief Imam invoked the phrase “Ya Wahib al-‘Ataya (يا واهب العطايا),” calling on Allah as the ultimate helper and sustainer, and reminding Muslims to remain steadfast in their faith beyond the رمضان period.

“O Giver of Blessings”—calling on Allah for guidance, mercy, and continued support for the Muslim community.

He stressed that Ramadan is not just a seasonal act of worship but a lifetime training in discipline, patience, humility, and devotion.

Warning Against Injustice and Unfaithfulness

The Chief Imam Abdul Lateef Abdul-Salam cautioned Muslims against returning to sinful or unjust lifestyles after Ramadan, urging them to remain faithful and upright.

He warned believers not to “die unjust and unfaithful,” but to live lives worthy of Allah’s mercy as they await divine judgment.

He emphasized that the key lessons of Ramadan—self-control, charity, honesty, and obedience to Allah—must continue to guide daily life.

According to him, true success lies in sustaining these values even after the fasting period has ended.

He emphasized that the spiritual discipline gained during Ramadan should not end with the fasting period, but must reflect in the daily lives of believers.

Abdul Lateef Abdul-Salam urged Muslims to remain just, faithful, and committed to the teachings of Islam, reminding them of their accountability before Allah.

Call for Peace, Unity and Responsible Living

The respected Islamic leader also called for peaceful coexistence, unity, and mutual respect among Muslims and the wider Ghanaian society.

He encouraged the youth to remain disciplined, avoid negative influences, and contribute positively to national development.

The Eid celebration served as both a moment of joy and reflection, bringing together the Muslim community in Aflao in a spirit of gratitude, renewal, and spiritual commitment.
