With anticipation and questions mounting over the upcoming dualisation of the Dzodze stretch of the Big Push Road Project, the Volta Regional Coordinating Council (VRCC) has engaged residents of the Ketu North District in a town hall meeting aimed at ensuring transparency, trust, and community participation.
The engagement, held at the Pentecost Church in Dzodze, created a platform for residents to directly interact with government officials and technical experts to better understand how the road project will be executed and how potential disruptions, including the impact on properties, will be managed.
Officials took residents through the scope of work, timelines, and mitigation measures, particularly focusing on valuation and compensation arrangements for structures that may be affected by the expansion.
Speaking at the meeting, the Acting Volta Regional Highway Director of the Ghana Highways Authority, Madam Faustina Oppong-Yeboah, explained that the Authority is mandated to develop, maintain, administer, and control trunk roads across the country. She assured residents that the Valuation Division of the Lands Commission would assess all affected properties and that compensation would be paid before any demolition.
On behalf of government, the Volta Regional Minister reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to fairness and due process, stressing that infrastructure development must go hand-in-hand with respect for citizens’ rights and livelihoods.
He further cited President John Dramani Mahama’s directive that no project should be commenced without clear plans and resources to see it through to completion, with strict monitoring and supervision to ensure quality delivery.
To enhance coordination between stakeholders, a twelve-member committee proposed by the Member of Parliament for Ketu North, Hon. Edem Agbana, was inaugurated by the Regional Minister to support communication and community engagement throughout the construction phase.
The meeting ended with an interactive question-and-answer session, during which residents sought clarification on compensation timelines, access during construction, and safety concerns. Officials responded with detailed explanations aimed at building confidence in the project.
The VRCC reaffirmed its commitment to delivering quality road infrastructure while safeguarding the interests of communities across the Volta Region.
