The Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu, has made a passionate appeal to private individuals, corporate institutions, development partners, and philanthropists to collaborate with government in addressing critical infrastructure gaps hindering the socio-economic advancement of the Volta Region.
He made the call during the official sod-cutting ceremony for the construction of the Ketu South Municipal Health Directorate Office Complex on Friday , 6th February 2026, at the Ketu South Municipal Assembly premises in Denu.
According to Hon. Gunu, the Volta Regional Coordinating Council (VRCC) is currently grappling with severe office accommodation deficits, which pose a major challenge to government’s decentralisation agenda.
The Regional Minister revealed that several national government institutions are eager to decentralise their operations to the Volta Region to improve service delivery, procurement processes, administrative efficiency, and regional economic activity, but are unable to do so due to the lack of suitable office infrastructure.
Institutions expected to establish or expand offices in the region include the Energy Commission, Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC), Ghana Buffer Stock Company, and other key regulatory and development agencies.
“Many national agencies are ready to decentralise their operations to Volta, but office accommodation remains our biggest challenge. Without the necessary infrastructure, we are unable to attract these institutions to establish their presence in the region,” Hon. Gunu stated.
He explained that the absence of these institutions forces residents and businesses to travel long distances to Accra, increasing the cost of doing business and slowing down development.
Hon. Gunu stressed that decentralisation is a major catalyst for regional development, as it improves access to public services, reduces bureaucratic delays, promotes investment, creates jobs, and stimulates local economic activities.
“If we decentralise effectively, Volta will become a vibrant economic hub. It will ease business processes, attract investors, and create employment opportunities for our youth,” he added.
The Volta Regional Minister commended Torgbui Tenuvi II (Mr. Felix Akonta Akakpo) for his visionary philanthropic intervention in funding the ultra-modern Municipal Health Directorate Office Complex, describing it as a model solution to the region’s office infrastructure challenges.
“What Torgbui Tenuvi II is doing here solves one of the biggest problems confronting both the VRCC and the Volta Region as a whole. This is the kind of partnership we need,” he stated.
He urged well-meaning individuals and corporate organisations to emulate such gestures by investing in critical public infrastructure, particularly office accommodation for decentralised government institutions.
Hon. Gunu noted that national attention is increasingly focused on the Volta Region, especially following government’s renewed commitment to decentralisation, infrastructure development, and regional economic transformation.
“The eyes of the nation are now on Volta. We must rise to the occasion and build the structures that will support growth and development,” he emphasized.
The Regional Minister concluded by calling for collective responsibility and strategic partnerships to unlock the full development potential of the Volta Region.
“Government alone cannot do everything. We need the support of private individuals, philanthropists, and development partners to move Volta forward,” he said.
