The Concerned Net Owners Association of Denu and Viepe Landing Beaches has issued a strong warning following the burning of sixteen (16) fishing canoes with their generators and the theft of three (3) additional genetors along the Viepe–Denu Landing Beach in the Ketu South Municipality of the Volta Region.
The incident, which occurred between 29th December 2025, 25th and 26th January, 2026, has caused severe financial losses, emotional trauma, and hardship to affected fishermen and their families, while threatening peace and livelihoods within the fishing communities.
In a press release sighted by News Volta, the Association condemned the act as criminal, wicked, and barbaric, and announced that failure by perpetrators to come forward within three (3) days will compel the Association to resort to traditional and spiritual measures (SHRINE) to identify the perpetrators, retrieve the stolen canoes and generators, and seek justice.
The Association appealed to any person or group with credible information, as well as any individual directly or indirectly involved, to voluntarily report themselves. Parents and guardians whose wards may have participated in this act are strongly urged to present them immediately to the Executive Committee of the Association or to the Ghana Police Service at the Denu Police Station.
“We believe in peaceful resolution, justice, and respect for the rule of law. However, the silence and inaction surrounding this incident will not be tolerated. If we do not hear anything within three days, we shall proceed to SHRINE to spiritually uncover those behind this evil act, retrieve our canoes and generators, and ensure justice is served,” the statement warned.
The Association reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining peace and unity, stressing that its actions will be carried out in collaboration with traditional authorities, security agencies, and relevant stakeholders.
