Ten Arrested in Nationwide Fake Food Delivery Scam Targeting Customers Across Ghana

The Ghana Police Service has arrested ten individuals suspected of creating fake online food delivery platforms to defraud unsuspecting customers.

The first group of six suspects — Wonder Sakpiti, Sedinam Amaglo, Godsway Dunyo, Angela Agblemekpe, Mathew Aheto, and Fafali Amoah — were apprehended on October 1, 2025, during a targeted police operation at Sogakope. The suspects, consisting of three males and three females, are believed to be behind a sophisticated online scam targeting food delivery customers.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the group designed fake websites and social media pages posing as popular food brands, including Papaye, Pizzaman, KFC, and Mawarko. Victims who placed orders through these fraudulent platforms were asked to make advance payments via mobile money but never received their food.

In some instances, the suspects allegedly gained unauthorized access to victims’ mobile money wallets and bank accounts under the pretense of assisting with payments, subsequently withdrawing funds. Several digital devices believed to have been used in the operation were seized and are undergoing forensic examination.

Further investigations led to the arrest of the suspected ringleader, Elijah Sotama Etse, also known as Pop Smoke, along with Elliot Sotama Atsu, Jethro Atsu, and Obed Selasi Agboli. The arrests took place on October 12, 2025, at a hideout in Haatso, Accra, where police retrieved twelve mobile phones linked to the scam.

All ten suspects are currently in police custody and are expected to appear before court on Monday, October 13, 2025.
