Anlo MP Warns Government Over Rising Coastal Erosion and Flooding in Volta Region

By Hebrews Pouyeli Kumako

The Member of Parliament for Anlo, Richard Kwame Sefe, has cautioned the government over what he describes as worsening coastal erosion and flooding affecting communities along the Volta coastline.

Speaking on Super Morning Show on Tuesday, April 21, the lawmaker warned that failure to act swiftly could result in serious public backlash from affected residents.

Mr. Sefe raised alarm over the increasing destruction caused by tidal waves along coastal communities, particularly in areas within the Anlo enclave. He noted that the situation continues to displace families, destroy properties, and threaten livelihoods.

He further stressed that the recurring flooding linked to the Volta Lake is compounding the crisis, leaving many communities vulnerable.

“If urgent and decisive steps are not taken, the impact on these communities will worsen, and the response from residents will not be favourable,” he cautioned.

The MP called on the National Democratic Congress administration to prioritize:

  • Expansion of coastal protection projects
  • Implementation of long-term flood control measures
  • Support for displaced families and affected communities

He emphasized that the situation demands immediate intervention, not just promises.

Several communities along the Volta coast, including those around Keta, continue to face persistent tidal waves and erosion, raising concerns about environmental sustainability and human security.

News Volta is closely monitoring the situation as pressure mounts on authorities to address the coastal erosion and flooding crisis in the Volta Region.
