Member of Parliament (MP) for Ketu South and Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie, on Monday, October 27, 2025, officially cut the sod for the construction of a six-unit classroom block for Avoeme Basic School in Aflao.
The project, fully funded through the MP’s share of the Common Fund, is in fulfillment of a promise she made to the chiefs and people of Avoeme Electoral Area during the 2019 NDC Constituency Primaries, when she was seeking the mandate to represent the party. The long-awaited project is a demonstration of her commitment to improving education infrastructure and ensuring that every child in her constituency has access to a conducive learning environment.
Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie emphasized that education remains one of her top priorities, noting that a solid foundation in education is key to unlocking opportunities and shaping a better future for the youth of Ketu South. She said the new classroom block will help reduce overcrowding, enhance teaching and learning conditions, and motivate pupils to perform better academically.

The facility will comprise spacious classrooms, an office, a store, and modern furniture, creating a safe and stimulating space for both teachers and learners. It will also help absorb increasing enrollment numbers and replace dilapidated structures that have served the community for decades.
The Chiefs and elders of Avoeme with assembly members, expressed their heartfelt appreciation to the MP for honoring her word and addressing one of the community’s most pressing needs. They commended her for her accessibility and responsiveness to community concerns, describing her as a “leader who listens and delivers.”

The traditional leaders pledged their support and cooperation to ensure smooth execution of the project and its timely completion. They also urged parents and community members to take ownership of the facility once completed, to ensure its sustainability.
The event was attended by officials of the Ketu South Municipal Assembly, representatives from the Education Directorate, teachers, parents, and community members — all of whom hailed the project as a significant step toward improving education in Avoeme and Ketu South at large.

With this initiative, Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie once again demonstrates her dedication to grassroots development, underscoring her belief that every child deserves quality education, regardless of where they live.
