MP Abla Dzifa Gomashie Funds New Six-Unit Classroom Block for Avoeme Basic School

A new dawn of hope is rising for pupils and teachers of Avoeme Basic School in Aveome, as the Municipal Chief Executive for Ketu South, Hon. Nicholas Worklachie, on behalf of the Member of Parliament and Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie, officially handed over contract documents to the contractor for the commencement of work on a six-unit classroom block for the school on 23rd October, 2025

According to Hon. Worklachie, the project is fully financed by Hon. Gomashie through her share of the MPs Common Fund, reaffirming her long-standing commitment to improving education infrastructure across Ketu South. He further revealed that the official sod-cutting ceremony will soon be performed by the MP herself to formally commence full construction.

A Response to a Pressing Need

For years, Avoeme Basic School has struggled with overcrowded classrooms, inadequate learning space, and deteriorating structures that make teaching and learning challenging—especially during the rainy season. Pupils are often forced to share desks or learn under unsafe conditions, hampering academic progress and discouraging attendance.

The new six-unit classroom block, expected to be completed within nine months, will address these challenges by providing a modern, spacious, and conducive environment for effective teaching and learning. The facility will also include teachers’ offices and improved sanitation facilities, ensuring a safer and more dignified school experience for both pupils and staff.

A Leader with Her People at Heart

Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie’s gesture reflects her deep compassion for the children of Ketu South and her belief that education is the foundation of development. Over the years, she has invested part of her resources and the MP’s Common Fund into supporting schools, scholarships, and learning materials to give every child in the constituency an opportunity to thrive.

“She holds the future of our children dearly,” Hon. Worklachie emphasized. “This project is another testament to her vision of empowering the next generation through education.”

Community Support and Excitement

Present at the brief ceremony were the contractor and his team, the Municipal Engineer, Mr. Oduro, staff of the Municipal Assembly, the Assembly Member for the area, the Assistant Headmaster and teachers, as well as PTA and SMC executives. They all expressed excitement and gratitude for the long-awaited project, describing it as a timely intervention that will transform the learning environment.

A Legacy for the Next Generation

As the project takes off, Avoeme Basic School becomes a beacon of hope for other communities in Ketu South—proof that responsive leadership and collaboration between citizens and their representative can make lasting impact.

For Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie, this initiative is more than just a building project; it is an investment in the dreams, dignity, and future of Ketu South’s children.
