Volta Region Secures Green Technology Pact with China

The Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, has signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with China’s Belt and Road Environmental Technology Exchange and Transfer Center aimed at advancing sustainable development in the region.

The pact, signed on September 15, 2025, seeks to attract green technology investments, foster technology transfer, and expand market access for local businesses. Under the agreement, the Volta Region will serve as a key partner in piloting environmentally friendly technologies, with a focus on renewable energy, waste management, and eco-friendly industrial practices.

Mr. Gunu described the agreement as a “transformational opportunity” for the region, stressing that the partnership will not only support environmental sustainability but also open up new economic avenues for local entrepreneurs.

“This MoU is about preparing Volta for the future. By working with China on green technology, we are ensuring that our businesses remain competitive while protecting the environment for generations to come,” he said.

Officials from the Chinese Belt and Road Center expressed optimism that the partnership would strengthen bilateral cooperation, promote innovation, and contribute to Ghana’s climate goals.

Local businesses are expected to benefit from expanded access to Chinese markets, training programs, and collaborative projects in sustainable agriculture, solar energy, and water resource management.

The Volta Region, often described as Ghana’s gateway to renewable energy potential, is positioning itself as a hub for sustainable growth, and this partnership marks a significant step toward that vision.
