Torgbiga Adamah Appeal To Government To Extend Water To Agbozume

Speaking at a grand durbar of Chiefs, Queen mothers and Elders to climax activities that marked the festival at Agbozume, the traditional capital on Saturday September 28th 2024, Paramount Chief and President of the Somé Traditional Council,Torgbiga Adamah III, made an appeal to the government of Ghana and Ghana Water Company to extend the good source of drinking water from the Volta Lake to Ketu South especially Agbozume Somé for both domestic and commercial used.

Because the water table within the Agbozume is polluted during the flood in 2023 and now becoming salty, posing danger to our health and now affecting vegetable farmers, the boreholes water in Agbozume and other communities are becoming full of salt , not helping in the cultivation of some demanding vegetables that yield high income to the farmers.

In an interview with Volta Forum GH Torgbiga Adamah, explained further how
boreholes water all within the Agbozume and other communities in Somé Wego of Ketu South Municipality are becoming more salty which might turns to affect vegetable farming

“Meanwhile salts such as calcium, magnesium, and sulfur are necessary for plant growth, but saltwater intrusion can raise these levels higher than necessary. As a result, salt water that washes over agricultural fields during flood storm events and extreme tides can severely degrade a soils’ ability to produce traditional crops like maize , cassava and some other vegetables. For this already started happening to part of my Traditional Area Somé and my people that are in to farming, especially within Agbozume. That for two years Agbozume is battling for a good drinking water which now turned to be a major problem to Agbozume.

The frequent and extent flooding events that hits ketu south municipality last year may increase in the future as a result of climate change as we are seeing and sea level rise if no other preventative measures are implemented,” Torgbiga Adamah lament on.

Torgbiga also call on SOMÉAWO to remain calm for they would find a lasting solution to the Agbozume water issue.
