Volta Region Can Feed the Entire Nation — NAFCO Regional Manager Declares

During a live discussion on GBC Volta Star Radio’s Morning Show, the Volta/Oti Regional Manager of the National Food Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO), Mr. Bright Delali Kugbeadzor, made a striking revelation — that the Volta Region’s 2025 rice production alone could feed the entire country.

Mr. Kugbeadzor explained that the region’s agricultural sector has seen significant improvement through discipline, enhanced farming practices, and government-backed initiatives like the Planting for Food and Jobs programme.

“This year’s rice harvest from the Volta Region can feed the entire nation of Ghana,” he said, underscoring the progress of local farmers who continue to expand production capacity despite challenges.

He emphasized that sustaining these gains requires continued commitment to local production, storage, and market access, urging Ghanaians to patronize locally grown rice.

“It takes discipline to grow and sustain local import substitution industries across the world,” Mr. Kugbeadzor noted, calling for renewed national pride in Ghanaian agricultural products.

News Volta Monitoring Desk, which tracked the programme live, reports that several callers and listeners commended the strides of Volta farmers and appealed for increased investment in local rice milling and marketing to maximize impact.

The Volta Region remains one of Ghana’s top food-producing zones, contributing significantly to food security, job creation, and rural development. Experts believe that with sustained support, the region could become the nation’s leading hub for rice and grain self-sufficiency.
