NDC Denies Receiving NSB Funds, Labels Allegations as Baseless

The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has strongly refuted claims suggesting it benefited from funds disbursed by the National Signals Bureau (NSB) ahead of the 2024 general elections, describing the allegations as “baseless and illogical.”

The denial comes in response to a leaked memo purportedly authored by former NSB Director Kwabena Adu-Boahene, addressed to the National Security Coordinator. The memo alleges that over GH¢8 million was distributed to opposition parties to aid election logistics and procure equipment. Adu-Boahene, who is facing accusations of misappropriating GH¢49 million, contends that the funds in question were used for covert national security operations. He has also accused the Attorney General of engaging in what he calls a “malicious prosecution” against him.

Although Adu-Boahene’s memo does not explicitly mention the NDC as a recipient, the party has swiftly moved to distance itself from the claims, reiterating its commitment to lawful and transparent political activities.

In an interview with Joy News, Dr. Rashid Tanko-Computer, the NDC’s Deputy Director of Elections and IT, categorically dismissed any suggestion of the party receiving such funds.

“Those people they’re referring to supported them during their recent demonstration. He knows his partners—that’s who he was referring to. And I’m sure everybody has seen that. My opponent would give me resources to defeat him in an election? Does that make sense?” Dr. Tanko-Computer questioned.

He further emphasized, “I can state authoritatively that it’s not possible at all. These guys are just clutching at straws. It won’t help them. They should go and negotiate a plea bargain, otherwise, Adu-Boahene could be facing 25 years.”

Dr. Tanko-Computer also suggested that some opposition parties lacked a genuine commitment to unseating the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), implying that their actions often aligned with the interests of the governing party.

“The NDC has nothing to do with this. We fought hard, used our own resources, and dealt a heavy blow to the NPP. The party has no business with whatever rubbish is coming out—we are not part of it,” he stressed.

The NDC has called for full disclosure and transparency regarding the origins and application of the alleged funds, reaffirming its stance on clean and accountable electioneering.
