Asiedu Nketiah Revives Rawlings’ Legacy of People-Centered Politics

National chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has reaffirmed the party’s determination to rebuild strong ties with its grassroots following his working tour of all districts in the Volta Region.

The four-day tour, which began on October 14 and concluded on October 17, 2025, saw Mr. Asiedu Nketiah engage with party executives, traditional leaders, and community members across the region. His visit aimed to strengthen grassroots structures, assess organizational readiness, and restore the party’s culture of direct engagement with the people.

Speaking at the end of the tour, Mr. Asiedu Nketiah expressed satisfaction with the enthusiasm and loyalty of NDC members in the Volta Region — the party’s long-standing stronghold.

“I have witnessed firsthand the unwavering commitment of our people to the NDC cause. If we are truly resetting this country, we must return to the values of Rawlings — direct engagement, accountability, and service to the people,” he said.

The NDC Chairman, accompanied by Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu and other regional executives, emphasized that the future strength of the party depends on rebuilding trust between leadership and the grassroots.

He announced that the party would soon roll out a constituency outreach programme designed to ensure regular visits by government appointees, ministers, and parliamentary candidates to explain government policies, gather community feedback, and foster closer ties with citizens.

“You elected me not to be an armchair chairman — I am a field chairman,” Mr. Asiedu Nketiah declared to loud applause, promising to remain accessible and active across the regions.

He further commended the chiefs and people of the Volta Region for their steadfast support and assured them that the NDC, under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama, remains committed to inclusive development and transformational governance.
