Akatsi North Assembly Supports 57 Persons with Disabilities

The Akatsi North District Assembly has extended various forms of support to 57 Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) to improve their welfare and promote inclusiveness in the district.

The initiative, funded by the District Assembly Common Fund (PWD component) with support from the Assembly’s Internally Generated Fund (IGF), provided beneficiaries with income-generating items, assistive devices, scholarships, medical aid, and financial support for small businesses.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, the District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Bless Kojo Katamani, said the government remains committed to empowering vulnerable groups to live dignified lives as outlined in the Persons with Disability Act, 2006 (Act 715).

He explained that this was the second phase of the support this year, with a third phase expected before the end of 2025.
The DCE urged beneficiaries to make good use of the items, adding that the Assembly’s monitoring team would ensure the resources are used effectively.

“This support must bring real change to your lives,” he emphasized.

The items distributed included 27 business tools, 3 assistive devices, 15 educational scholarships, 6 medical bill payments, and 6 business start-up supports.

Some beneficiaries expressed joy and appreciation to the government, the DCE, and the Member of Parliament for their continued care and assistance.

The DCE revealed that the second phase of the support package was valued at ₵500,000, underscoring the Assembly’s commitment to promoting equal opportunities and inclusion for all residents.
