PIAC Field Examination Reveals Concerns Over “Completed” Exi Road Project as Ketu North MCE Calls for Contractor Trace

By Hebrews Pouyeli Kumako

Fresh controversy is unfolding in the Ketu North Municipality following revelations surrounding the long-delayed Exi–Agbozume Road project, after a field examination conducted by the Public Interest and Accountability Committee (PIAC) reportedly raised serious questions over the status of the road.

Information gathered by News Volta indicates that the road project, which links Exi to Dzodze, was allegedly captured in official records as completed under petroleum-funded infrastructure projects, with payments reportedly made to the contractor. However, checks on the ground reportedly show that the road remains uncompleted despite records suggesting the project was awarded around 2006 and expected to have been fully completed by 2011.

According to sources monitored by News Volta, the matter gained renewed attention during a field inspection and examination exercise by PIAC, the state oversight body responsible for monitoring the use of petroleum revenues and ensuring accountability in funded projects across the country.

The field assessment reportedly exposed discrepancies between official documentation and the actual state of the road project on the ground, triggering concerns among residents and local authorities. The development has fueled growing public interest regarding how a project reportedly funded and marked as completed remains unfinished years later.

Speaking on the matter, the Municipal Chief Executive for Ketu North, Rev. Martin Amenaki, is said to have called for efforts to trace the original contractor associated with the project as authorities consider the possibility of re-awarding the contract for completion. According to reports, the MCE expressed concern over the condition of the road and the apparent inconsistencies surrounding the project’s completion status.

Brief interaction with News Volta Residents say the Exi road is critical for transportation, farming activities, and access to the major commercial center at Dzodze, making its prolonged delay a major challenge for surrounding communities. The revelations have intensified calls for transparency and accountability regarding the management of petroleum-funded infrastructure projects. Community members and observers are reportedly demanding: Full disclosure of payment records connected to the project, Clarification on supervision and certification processes, Identification of officials and contractors involved and Immediate steps toward completing the road

Some residents argue that the situation reflects wider concerns over abandoned and uncompleted projects despite official claims of completion. The Exi–Dzodze road remains an important route for traders, farmers, and commuters within the municipality. Residents say the poor condition of the road continues to affect transportation, increase travel time, damage vehicles, and slow economic activity in nearby communities.

News Volta will continue monitoring developments surrounding the Exi–Dzodze road project and provide updates as more information emerges.
