There’s No Need To Do Partizan Politics With Ghana’s Fishing Closed Season – Petit Haligah

Mr Samuel Wisdom Doe Haligah the parliamentary candidate for NPP in Ketu South has called on good people of Volta Region not to allow NDC party to decieved us and do politics with the closed season, that we should not allow ourselves to be used by NDC for their propaganda, the closed season policy started from the National Democratic Congress administration.

Since 2015, the Ministry of Fisheries and aquaculture development implemented a one-month closed season in accordance with Section 84 of the Fisheries Act, 2002 (Act 625). The period also known as the biological rest period is the spawning period of fish stocks.

During this period the fish spawn (lay their eggs) in the hope that these eggs will mature into fish to replenish the depleted or reduced stock. This is some sort of rejuvenation of the lost population in the case of afforestation in plants.

This period is chosen because it aligns with the spawning period of many fish species, allowing them to lay eggs and replenish their populations before the fishing season resumes. The goal is to ensure the long-term rebuilding of depleted and dwindling fish stocks, he added.

Samuel Wisdom Doe Haligah hinted that closed season, according to the minister of fisheries, there have been several consultations that have yielded, and Ghana now have its closed season with Cote d’Ivoire this year, plans underway to have Togo, Benin, and Liberia on board next year.

He advised all Party communicators to educate our fishermen rather than, the deception: that the closed season fishing arrangement is being a punishment by the government.
