The Paramount Chief of the Aflao Traditional Area and President of the Aflao Traditional Council, Togbui Adzonugaga Amenya Fiti V, has called on the Minister for Roads and Highways Hon. Governs Kwame Agbodza to urgently visit the Ketu South Municipality to assess and ensure the full implementation of the Government’s flagship Big Push Road Project from Tokor Junction to Aflao.

In a statement issued by the Aflao Traditional Council, the Paramount Chief stressed that the proposed road project extends far beyond its role as a transportation corridor and should be recognized as a strategic national infrastructure essential to the protection and future development of Aflao.

According to Togbui Fiti V, the Tokor Junction–Aflao Road is expected to serve as a vital protective barrier against the growing threats of coastal erosion, flooding, and sea incursions that continue to endanger communities along Ghana’s eastern coastline.

He explained that Aflao, being Ghana’s largest land border and an important commercial gateway, requires resilient infrastructure capable of protecting lives, businesses, public facilities, and economic activities from the increasing impact of climate change and rising sea levels.

The Traditional Council further emphasized that the project would significantly enhance transportation, facilitate cross-border trade, strengthen national security, and improve access to social and economic opportunities within the municipality.

The statement cautioned that any attempt to alter, weaken, delay, divert, or reduce the scope of the Tokor Junction–Aflao Big Push Road Project would undermine the long-term interests of the municipality and expose thousands of residents to heightened environmental and economic risks.

Togbui Fiti V therefore appealed to the Roads and Highways Minister to personally inspect the project corridor, engage relevant stakeholders, and ensure that the road is executed according to its original government-approved design and purpose.

He maintained that development projects of such strategic importance should be implemented transparently and faithfully, free from political interference or administrative decisions that could compromise the welfare of the people.

The Paramount Chief reaffirmed the commitment of the Aflao Traditional Council and the people of Aflao to support initiatives that promote sustainable development while remaining vigilant in safeguarding projects intended for the advancement and protection of the municipality.

“Aflao deserves fairness, Aflao deserves protection, and Aflao deserves the full implementation of every project approved for its development and future resilience,” the statement concluded.
