Family of Slain Christopher Ahordo Demands Answers from IGP Over Alleged Police Mishandling and Mysterious Escape of Murder Suspect in Custody

By Hebrews Pouyeli Kumako

The family of the late Christopher Ahordo, popularly known as Daniello, is intensifying calls for justice and demanding the immediate re-arrest of Taidu Ali, the prime suspect in his murder, following what they describe as serious police lapses and troubling irregularities in the handling of the case.

According to the family, Christopher Ahordo was brutally attacked, stabbed, shot, and murdered on April 28, 2025, around Diamond Cement in Aflao, in an incident that shocked residents and left his loved ones devastated.

Speaking out publicly, Mr. Daniel Elolo Ahordo, brother of the deceased, together with other family members, has called on the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) and the Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB/PIPS) to investigate and explain how the prime suspect, Taidu Ali, allegedly escaped police custody under questionable circumstances.

According to the grieving family, suspect Taidu Ali was initially arrested by the Aflao Police Command in connection with the murder of Christopher Ahordo and was later transferred to the Ho Regional Police Headquarters for what police described as further investigations.

The family said they had confidence that justice was finally within reach—only to be shocked by what they now call a “deeply suspicious” transfer of the suspect from the more secure Ho Regional Police Headquarters to the Adaklu Area 51 Police Station, which they describe as an isolated and less secure facility.

“Why Was the Prime Suspect Moved?”

The family is demanding to know why a prime suspect in a serious murder investigation was moved from a high-security regional custody center to what they believe was an inappropriate and vulnerable detention location.

“We were waiting patiently for justice, only to discover that the suspect had been quietly moved. We want to know who authorized that decision and why,” the family reportedly stated. Their concerns intensified when, after following up on the case at the Adaklu Area 51 Police Station, officers allegedly informed them that Taidu Ali had escaped from custody.

Family Questions Police Account of Escape

They say no clear justification has been provided regarding how the suspect managed to escape, under what circumstances it happened, or which officers were responsible for securing him at the time. “To add salt to injury, we are simply told that the suspect escaped—without accountability, without details, and without reassurance that he is being actively pursued,” a family representative said. The family is now demanding a full independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the alleged escape and possible negligence—or worse—by officers involved in the suspect’s custody and transfer. The explanation has left the family outraged and unconvinced.

The family has also expressed anger over reports that other suspects linked to the case were allegedly granted bail without their knowledge or consultation. According to them, this has further deepened fears that justice for Christopher Ahordo may be slipping away.

They insist that victims’ families deserve transparency and regular updates, especially in a case involving the violent loss of a loved one. The Ahordo family is calling on the Inspector-General of Police, the Police Professional Standards Bureau, and other oversight authorities to urgently:

  • Investigate who authorized the transfer of suspect Taidu Ali from Ho to Adaklu
  • Explain how the suspect allegedly escaped from police custody
  • Hold accountable any officers whose negligence may have contributed to the escape
  • Clarify why other suspects were granted bail without proper communication with the family
  • Intensify efforts to immediately re-arrest the escaped suspect

For the Ahordo family, the pain of losing Christopher has now been compounded by what they describe as frustration, confusion, and growing distrust in the justice process.

They say they will not relent until those responsible—both for the murder and for any failures within the system—are held accountable. “We are not only mourning our brother; we are now fighting for justice in a system that appears to be failing us,” the family said.

The Ghana Police Service is yet to publicly respond to the allegations, but the case is expected to draw significant public attention as calls grow for transparency and accountability in the handling of criminal investigations.
