More than 15 houses have reportedly been swallowed by the sea at Adina in the Ketu South Municipality of the Volta Region in September 2026, following renewed tidal wave attacks that have left residents increasingly worried about their safety and livelihoods.

The destruction comes amid ongoing sea defence construction in the municipality, raising fresh concerns about the vulnerability of coastal communities and the urgent need for effective protection against tidal waves.

Speaking to News Volta, the Assembly Member for the area, Hon. Johnson Suzey David, passionately appealed for urgent intervention to prevent further destruction and protect lives and property.

He expressed deep concern over the growing devastation, stressing the need for immediate and lasting measures to address the threat facing residents of Adina.

The destruction of more than 15 houses highlights the continuing vulnerability of coastal communities in Ketu South, where tidal waves have repeatedly threatened homes, livelihoods and essential infrastructure.

Residents are now facing the difficult prospect of losing their homes as the sea continues to encroach on the community, despite ongoing coastal protection works in the municipality.

The situation in Adina has renewed calls for accelerated and effective coastal protection measures to safeguard vulnerable communities along the Ketu South coastline.
