Thirty-one (31) young people in the Ketu South Municipality have successfully completed a Film Production training programme and received Certificates of Merit, following a capacity-building initiative organised by the Office of the Member of Parliament for Ketu South in January 2026.
The programme forms part of Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie’s broader vision to strengthen the creative arts industry in the constituency, elevate Ewe-language film production to global standards, and showcase Ketu South as a hub of cultural and creative talent.
Speaking on the objective of the initiative, the MP, who is also the Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, emphasised that creative arts remain a powerful tool for youth employment, cultural preservation, and economic growth.
“We have immense talent in Ketu South. What is often missing is structured training, mentorship, and access to industry-standard practices. This programme is to bridge that gap and position our creatives to compete globally,” she noted.
Hon. Gomashie, a seasoned media professional, drew on her extensive experience as a television producer with the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GTV), where she worked from 1995. She is widely celebrated for producing By the Fireside, one of Ghana’s most iconic television series, which transcended generations and became a household programme for children, adults, and the elderly across Ghana and parts of Africa.
The film production course exposed participants to script development, directing, camera operations, sound, lighting, and basic post-production techniques, equipping them with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills required in today’s creative industry.
Beneficiaries who spoke to News Volta described the training as transformational, saying it has boosted their confidence and opened new opportunities within the film and creative arts sector.
“This training has shown us that we can tell our own stories in Ewe and still meet international standards,” one participant said.
The MP reiterated her commitment to sustaining creative arts development in Ketu South, revealing plans to expand similar training modules across the Volta Region to nurture talents in film, theatre, comedy, music, and cultural storytelling.
The certification ceremony marks another milestone in Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie’s skills development agenda, reinforcing her belief that creative and hands-on skills are essential complements to formal education and a pathway to reducing youth unemployment.
