President Mahama Commissions National Signals Bureau Volta Regional Command in Ho

His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama has officially commissioned the newly established National Signals Bureau (NSB) Volta Regional Command in Ho, reaffirming the government’s unwavering commitment to strengthening national security infrastructure and safeguarding Ghana’s digital future.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, President Mahama emphasized that no nation can achieve sustainable development without strong security, adding that intelligence remains the backbone of any effective security architecture. He stressed that in an era shaped by global cyber threats, artificial intelligence, and rapidly evolving technology, Ghana must invest heavily in modern intelligence systems to protect its citizens and institutions.

“Security is the foundation of development, and intelligence is the backbone of security. As Ghana embraces digital transformation, we must build stronger surveillance systems, smarter intelligence networks, and a resilient cyber architecture,” President Mahama stated.

The new NSB Volta Regional Command is designed to serve as the nerve center for intelligence gathering, analysis, and coordination across the region.
It is fully integrated into the national surveillance grid and equipped with:

  • advanced digital monitoring systems
  • cybersecurity response capabilities
  • artificial intelligence–supported intelligence tools
  • real-time data and communication platforms
  • secure inter-agency coordination channels

The facility will enhance the detection of threats, support national law enforcement agencies, and strengthen border security—especially given the Volta Region’s strategic location as a gateway to neighbouring Togo and the broader West African corridor.

President Mahama noted that expanding the National Signals Bureau’s footprint ensures comprehensive surveillance coverage, enhances cybersecurity readiness, and strengthens both regional and national counter-intelligence capabilities.

The President highlighted the growing role of artificial intelligence in global security, stating that Ghana must accelerate its adoption of AI-driven technologies to keep pace with evolving threats.

He reiterated the government’s commitment to:

  • strengthening the country’s digital defenses
  • empowering national intelligence institutions
  • training personnel in modern intelligence operations
  • expanding regional intelligence commands nationwide

According to the President, the investment in the NSB is part of a broader strategy aimed at transforming Ghana’s security landscape into a technology-driven, intelligence-led system.

Minister for the Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, praised the initiative, describing it as a bold step that reflects the administration’s dedication to the safety and stability of the nation.

He announced that four additional NSB regional commands are scheduled to become operational before the end of the year, marking a major milestone in decentralizing Ghana’s intelligence infrastructure.

“This government is committed to equipping our security agencies with modern tools, the right training, and the institutional support needed to protect every corner of the country,” he affirmed.

As part of his working visit to the Volta Region, President Mahama also joined thousands of celebrants at the 2025 National Farmers Day held in Ho.
Accompanied by the Minister for the Interior and other government officials, he commended Ghanaian farmers for their resilience, innovation, and contribution to national food security.

He highlighted the synergy between security, agriculture, and economic growth, noting that a secure environment is essential for farmers, investors, and businesses to thrive

The commissioning of the National Signals Bureau Volta Regional Command marks a significant leap in Ghana’s security transformation agenda. Positioned at the crossroads of national development, digital innovation, and regional stability, the new facility underscores the government’s vision of building a safer, smarter, and more resilient Ghana.
